Unable to record VO in Premiere CS6

I have been using Premiere CS6 since new but have never tried recording voice-over directly into CS6. (I have always used Audacity to do voice-overs)

I decided to try recording directly into CS 6 but am having difficulty. I have made sure the audio mixer is set to use the external USB mic and have switched ON Audio tracks 1 and 2, but for some reason, no audio input is shown in the audio mixer. I have checked the volume settings and have tried each of the drop-down settings of Off, Read, Latch, Touch and Write all to no avail.

Clearly I haven’t set up things properly. Can anyone help with this problem please? The YouTube videos all seem to advise on later editions of Premiere Pro and not version CS6.

Many thanks.

Pete

Hi Pete,

OK, I understand. The VO Tool isn't there, but you're right, there is a way to record simple audio without some of the niceties offered by the tool. No Countdown or UI for VOs, but check out this tutorial. I forgot that you can do some basic work in the Timeline with stock tools.

Hope it gets you going. Please return with any questions.

Regards,
Kevin

Hey Pete,

Sorry, my friend, but CS6 is ancient history. It's what? 10 years old now? Getting close, if not. Once you blow off the dust, you'll realize it's missing a good number of features that the current version has. The VO tool is one of those. Sorry! Check out the trial version is you do not want to commit to an upgrade. Other than that, use your previous method. Sounds like it works.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks, Kevin,

Once Adobe made Premiere subscription only, I realized, as a very aged pensioner, I would never be able to afford it. CS6 has been all I need for my video productions over the years so I will continue to use Audacity for my regular voiceovers.

My information is that CS6 IS able to record voiceovers even if the program is very aged like myself..

Thanks for replying.

Cheers. Pete

Guessing a usb mic is not compatible with cs6.

Probably need a regular mic.

Thanks for that Ann. The CS6 Audio Mixer recognises the mic, but I will investigate.

just stick with what worked before you go lazy.

here's a sample of work in progress where I got vo from 2 people in other u.s. states...sent script, vo, and got back wave files or whatever they had.

put in audition, trimmed, fixed, and put into timeline.... basically it's like using external sound recording for voices when giving them the video ( visuals) and explaining what I need.

use external recordings and do it the old way.

otherwise stick a mic on your camera, shoot your cat video, and run around with iphone, and have fun,

Thanks ALL for your tips and advice. Should I wish to, I can now record VO direct into Premiere CS6. All tested and works fine now.

However, I will most likely stick with Audacity that I use and know.

Thanks again.  Pete
