O.k maybe this is just a simple fix im not sure basically im having issues with my folders and trying to get them as large as possible and ive tried the 2 most common ways ive been doing it forever.

1) Taking the option right clicking within the folder and going to view and you get sm med lrg or extra lrg

2)Holding down the control button and tapping the plus button

And it seams like forver when i did this the icon or  picture i wanted to look at would just blow up in size however now when i try either option my pictures or icons just form into rows? I dont want rows i just want it bigger. Again im lost because it seams like i may have inadverntly  changed something or did a function of the operating sytem change. Any advice..? Thnks in advance.

Try resetting the preferences:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
