Uncompressed AVI Playback Issue in Premiere Pro 24.5

New Here ,
Jun 21, 2024 Jun 21, 2024

I have encountered a bug in Adobe Premiere Pro versions 24.5 where uncompressed AVI codec videos do not play back properly on the timeline. Instead of displaying the video, the screen remains static and the CPU usage spikes to 100%.

Steps to Reproduce:

Import an uncompressed AVI codec video into the timeline.
Attempt to play back the video.
Expected Behavior: The video should play back smoothly on the timeline.

Actual Behavior: The video does not play back (the screen is static), only the audio plays, and the CPU usage reaches 100%.

System Specifications:

Adobe Premiere Pro version: 24.5
CPU: Core i9-13900KS
RAM: 64.0 GB
Operating System: Windows 11
Graphics Card: RTX 4090
This issue significantly impacts the workflow, making it difficult to work with uncompressed AVI files in the latest versions of Premiere Pro. Please investigate and provide a fix for this problem.

Thank you.

@4n0nym0us

Uncompressed AVI requires an extremely high sustained data transfer rate.

Use the Proxy workflow.  This will allow you to edit smoothly.

If your delivery specifications allow for it, I’d consider using Porres 422 HQ or other high-end editing CODEC that should perform well on your system specs.
