When I trim a clip in premiere the audio file gets corrupted

When I trim any clip in premiere pro the audio file starts to get corrupted and wierd noises start to appear in different parts of the file that weren't originally there. The more I trim, the more sounds/noises appear in the file. I don't know how to fix this issue. 

 

I'm running the latest version of Premiere Pro (23.0), but this issue has been occuring with previous versions as well.

Make sure Default Input in the Audio Hardware in the Preferences is set to No Input.
