After a month editing, today I found the search box is gray and does not let it write inside.
It is a useful tool to search among a large volume of material.
I tried two lastest versions of Premiere & also I've cleaned & restored Cache's folders & still doesn't works.
Who knows why it has been disabled?
Or how can it be activated again?
The fix should be in the 12.1.2 update that was released last night (July 16).

leew5477482 Sorry about that. Did you try this fix from earlier in this forum thread? "If you have the Project Tab set at the far right, move it left. Then, save and reopen the application. Let us know if that worked for you."

The workaround suggested in the forum did not rectify the issue for me.

Hi jordim77196103, the bug fix for the grayed out search bar will be in the release after 12.1.1.

Thanks Tester543. This fix can't come soon enough. Moving the project tab around doesn't work for me. At the moment I'm just using the "create search bin from query" button, but it's cumbersome. It is an incredibly disruptive bug, adding so much extra time to my workflow.

Hi jacksond66443359. You may have come across one of the temporary ways to restore the search bar access. But be aware that 12.1.1 still has the bug and you may encounter it again. The fix that prevents the grayed out search bar is in our next dot release after 12.1.1.

This is still a major problem. Close all does nothing. Revert is also greyed out.

This is still not working for me on Mac 10.12.6 PPro 12.1.2, or at the very least is not consistently working. Reset preferences. New project...search bar is active, existing project...not active.

In the old project, I would also try resetting the workspace.
And then importing the old project into the new project.

I Ran it on two different machines windows 10 and macOS.
I have talked to Adobe support - the said it's going to be fixed on the next release, somewhere in June.
Tester543 Do you know when exactly the next release will enroll?

Sorry, ArkaPro, we can't say exactly when updates are going to be released. Soon, though!
Thanks,

OK, guys, I found a working Workaround (tested once)!
Read it on this thread (you should vote there to speed up the FIX)
Here it is:
I've been having the same issue and clicked File>Revert and that worked for me! When I close and reopen, the search bar is grayed out again, but reverting seems to fix it each time, so at least this is a temporary fix until its patched.
It is still annoying but makes the app usable again. until they enroll the next update with the fix.
good luck!

Yeah, so this issue definitely still persists in 12.1.1 and the "close all projects" doesn't work for me, however, this suggestion forwarded by ArkaPro sometimes work for me, in addition to using "create search bin from query".
When I open a project and the search is grayed out, I make a small change on the timeline (like, delete something), then click file->revert and when the project reopens, the search bar occasionally comes back.
I find that I have to spam this action a few times to get it to work, but at least it brings some temporary alleviation until the bug is fixed (which will hopefully be soon - holding thumbs!)

I've found that after a project file gets too big some of the functions, including the search bar cease to work. It can work sometimes if you open a bin in a new window. So my work around was to create a new project that was streamlined and under 70MB. Not ideal. But workable.
