Day late and a dollar short perhaps, but my work around is to create template sequence with the desired mixer settings.

My friend, that's actually exactly what I was eventually doing too, and I
appreciate the reminder. I have terrible memory issues and one pitfall is
forgetting the dozens of little tricks required for a successful edit.
