Add modifier keys to marquee selection tool to add/subtract clips

Add modifier keys to the selection tool to allow for adding/subtracting clips within the bounds of a marquee. why? Currently there's no fast way to select a bunch of clips in a scenario like this:

You could control/command click the individual clips or you could lock the other tracks and marquee the clips in the unlocked track but either route takes waaaay too many clicks. A big drag if you do this alot.

Please revisit the selection tool and expand on its functionality by adding modifier keys to the mix.

Just use select in to out. It will select only footage between your in and out points on targeted tracks.

Select in to out is still lots of clicks/keystroke to arm the track(s), set new in/outs, and evoke the command vs one modifier & a marquee selection swipe.

Plus with select in to out, you still can't bulk subtract clips from a current selection or add to a selection with non-contiguous clips as you would with a modifier-enabled selection tool.

Agree. I think this could be done with the same "click and drag" box selection tool you get when clicking in an unoccupied area of the timeline, but would simply need a modifier key to access this tool while the cursor is hovering over clips. Right now, theres no way to access the tool when the cursor is over top of a clip

The real issue here is that the SELECTION functionality (when you start dragging from an empty spot), and the MOVE CLIPS AROUND BY DRAGGING functionality (when you start dragging from on top of a clip), are both bound to the same tool.
This will never happen, but I'd solve this problem by adding two new tools, dedicated to only selection, and only movement, respectively. The current "selection tool" would remain functionally the same, but would have its name changed.
I'd say that we could use modifier keys instead, but SHIFT, ALT, and CTRL are already used up in the current selection tool...

TaranVH has a point that the selection tool already has modifier keys associated with it and that the tool has dual functionality. I personally am not a fan of having to switch tools unless it's implemented like Sticky Keys in Cinema 4D where a second tool is temporarily evoked while you have a button held and reverts back to the first tool upon release.

So perhaps as an alternative & to keep muscle memory workflows intact, keep the selection tool as is, but expand the selection functionality of the tool by adding modifier enabled marquee selection to the middle mouse button instead. Middle mouse drag to create a marquee selection, Shift+middle mouse drag to marquee add, alt/option middle mouse to marquee subtract- kinda like photoshop.
