Captions Tab in Text Window - disable auto scroll

I find the autoscroll feature that centres a caption in the captions tab very frustrating. I'd like the option to turn it off. It scrolls so slowly, and there's often a delay after clicking. That makes it very difficult to select and double click a caption as I'm working through them. I'd rather just keep mousewheel scrolling and be able to select, double click, and edit the captions I need to manually.

Turning off all video tracks helps, but the choice to disable the auto scroll to centre the caption that is clicked within the captions tab would make the whole thing so much quicker and easier to use.

steve,

"Disable auto-scrolling" has been available since PR version 15.4.1 (Oct-ish 2021). And off is better if you have performance issues. Auto-scrolling for me has always been quick. But I have rarely been affected by the frustrating SLOW performance that some users get on captions.

Thank you so much. I have been struggling with this for ages. Glad it was implemented - I had no idea it had been.

It's a good option. But scrolling correctly (quickly) is even better!

Are you having any other performance issues with captions?

Just that it sometimes feels slower than it should do given that I have a hi-spec PC. I'm working on some captions right now with auto scrolling turned off and it's a lot easier. Also find that if I solo the captions then I can work on the edits between them much more easily - even if the render line is yellow every now and then it jitters and I have to go back.

I have an RTX A6000, plenty of memory and a decent processor, so I wouldn't have thought that performance should be an issue.

steve,

There are some strategies for speeding up the very slow performances (close text panel, zoom in to timeline). Yours doesn't sound as slow as some.

I have been unable to replicate it with a couple of exceptions, and those did not persist.

Thanks Stan. Honestly, disabling auto-scrolling will be a massive time saver for me.

Hi Stan,

I seem to have the opposite issue. I have enabled auto-scroll, however I still have to manually scroll down the captions in the text panel everytime.

For example I use the text panel to highlight and change the colour of some words in the captions on my video, but whereas on my old Macbook Air, it would autoscroll everytime I clicked the next caption, it no longer does this and I have to manually scroll down myself.

Do you know if there's a way to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Selia
