No keyboard shortcuts please

Can there please be a version of Premiere (or any other Adobe program) that works without having to memorize keyboard shortcuts?

Isn't that why computers, UI's, menus and mouseclicks have been invented; so that I don't have to remember all sorts of codes and let the computer do the work for me?
I've made it to section 3 out of 5 of the first tutorial and I have already given up because of having to remember keyboard shortcuts. I don't want that! I just want a menu, where I can click on an word and then stuff happens. I want to just drag and drop clips, select them and then choose from a menu what I want to do with that.

What I have seen in other Adobe monstrocities is that every menu-item has a keystroke. So just give me a tutorial with menu items please.

Interesting, and proving that we truly are all different ...

First, as you note, you found there were keyboard shorts by going through menus and seeing them listed on the menu along with the thing you were looking for.

So clearly, the menu system is there if you want to work that way.

Second ... it's slower than molasses to work that way, though. So I suspect you aren't working for a boss or a client, who wants things done quickly.

One thing pushed hard in training for pro video post, is getting good and fast at keyboard shortcuts, and also ... learning when a control surface can give even more speed to your workflow.

You get used to working from the keyboard & your surface, and when you do have to go to a mouse ... jeepers, that's slooooooowwwwwww.

Yeah, what Neil said!

<<Isn't that why computers, UI's, menus and mouseclicks have been invented>>

Yes, there is that big box (computer) near you, a nice monitor (UI), Menus (UI), mouse clicks... (uh... mouse)...

AND....

That big ol' flat thing right in front of you... yeah, you know what it is...

It's not necessarily the keystrokes but the software in general takes time to learn. Good you are doing tutorials. I'm still doing AE tutorials on LinkedIn. If you want to learn to be an editor or to edit with great control you are on the right path. But you got to stick to it.

Concentrate on only learning a few key-shorts at a time, like 2-4 of them. Such as "Insert" and "over-write". Use them for a few days to get used to them. Then when you don't think about it anymore, add a few more.

I've put them on paper notes taped/stuck to a monitor at times. No brain can handle learning 30 at once! So ... put a few on the note, just get those into what's called "muscle memory" ... something you can do without thinking about it, without needing to look.

That's how colorists get fast at working like 70 potential different controls across multiple screens. Muscle memory is what gets you fast.

@Alphenaer1,

You started by saying that Premiere should work without having to memorize keyboard shortcuts. But you obviously recognize it does work with menus, and I think your real point was at the end "So just give me a tutorial with menu items please."

It's a good point because most tutorials don't focus on how to find the right menu commands. And you can't learn all the shortcuts in the beginning. But many tutorials include that information for some workflows.

I'll pay attention to the next tutorials I check out as to whether they include menu items.

No matter what resources you find a) Premiere Pro has a steep learning curve whether you are using menu items or keyboard shortcuts and b) keyboard shortcuts are faster. I constantly forget some of them, and I put little post-its on my monitor for a quick reference to frequent ones that I forget.

Stan
