Refresh Button for text editor panel

I am currently using Premiere Pro 24.6.0. When I'm editing my videos, I heavily use the text panel. It really speeds up my workflow, being able to read the transcript what's being said instead of having to watch through the content. My main problem, however, is that as I'm adding cuts and regularly saving my work, the text panel will suddenly go blank, just saying "<Type your caption here>" over and over. At this point, I have to manually refresh the panel like so:

It would be really nice if there was a button somewhere in the Transcript tab of the Text panel that was simply a refresh button. Just one simple click, and it will get your transcript back. Any of the three locations below would be good placements for such a button:

Does anyone else encounter this issue, and does this seem like a good fix? Devs, would this be doable?

I hope this is helpful. Thanks for your time!

Hi @kg77

thanks a lot for sending the logs! We looked at them and believe we have a fix ready for this issue, it should be available in the upcoming 25.0 release of Premiere Pro so please keep an eye out for the update and let us know if you're still seeing the issue.

Best,

Kerstin

There have reports of similar issues, but I don't recall one where it shows the blank caption placeholder before No dialogue.

As an additional workaround, close the Text panel and then open it. Does that work.

@Kerstin Ebert Is this similar to the other issue you've been looking at?

Sometimes I get a different error where it just displays a bunch of gobbledygook that looks like code, and it says to close the panel and reopen it, and that does work to solve that issue. I haven't tried closing and reopening the panel for this specific issue, because that takes longer than my current workaround, but I would imagine that would fix it as well.

Hi @kg77

thanks for reporting this. Do you recall if that Text panel error happens radomly or only after you are doing a specific action (e.g. insert text as clip to timeline, or when making edits only in the Text panel and not in the sequence)?

Once you can reproduce this error again, please check the following folder to see if any .log file had been added around the same time the error was triggered. If yes, can you please share it with me?

  • For Mac: User/Username/Library/Logs/Adobe/Adobe Premiere Pro
  • For Win: os(c)/users/username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Premiere Pro/Logs

Thanks,

Kerstin

Hi @Kerstin Ebert!

There seem to be a few actions which cause it (none of which are fully consistent). If I do a lot of edits and cuts and deletions, sometimes it will happen. It can also happen after saving my file. I just replicated the problem again, but this time it was after bringing an already-transcribed clip into my timeline. Part of it had the actual transcript showing, and other parts were <Type your caption here>. No error logs appeared when this error happened, but when I refreshed the panel (by doing what's shown in the GIF above) .

How can I share the .log file with you?

*No error logs appeared when this error happened, but when I refreshed the panel (by doing what's shown in the GIF above) that's when a .log file was generated.

Sorry about the typo.

Thanks for the detailed input. You can share the log files with me e.g. via dropbox or direct message and then I can take a closer look.

Thank you!
