Search Across All Projects in a Production

This is by no means a new request. I have been clamoring for this since Productions launched. But, it's such a basic and critical part of working in Premiere that to not have this feature feels like a collossal oversight.

WE DESPERATELY NEED TO BE ABLE TO SEARCH FOR CLIPS/METADATA/MARKERS ACROSS ALL PROJECTS IN A PRODUCTION.

It's not enough to just be super organized, but for now that's our only option.

BEGGING FOR THIS! PLEASE!

Is there a way to search across all projects in the new Productions format? Right now it looks like I can only search within each individual Project. If the goal is to break it up so we have dozens of individual projects housed in one Production then it would be vital to search everything at once, just like you could before with the standard project.

Has this problem been solved yet? I 100% agree and am looking for a work around in the meantime

To not upload multiple copies of an asset sprinkled across several projects in a Production, I need to be able to search the Production. This seems essential to me. So why has it not been implemented? Perhaps there is no penalty or downside to uploading the same asset to each of the projects? I would like to have a single copy, so that if I modify it, I don't have to modify each separate project. Not having Production Search capability puts a burden on me to scrupulously ensure I don't have duplicate copies on my system. I am seriously looking for a work around.

It would be great too if Video Usage and Audio Usage worked across projects in a production. That's a highly useful tool in big projects, which is where productions is getting used.

@mattchristensen is there any news on Productions being able to search or have clip usage across projects? I haven't been able to keep up with the Beta for the last while.

Bumping this too - searching metadata across the production would be a major pivotal huge improvement and also allow for some basic functionality that's really missing without it. Video Usage/Audio Usage across projects in a production, and marker searchability across the production also really foundational and helpful.

I made this request as soon as Productions was released. It's been 4 years. 😐

This would be amazing! I wonder if having this would allow us to get "Reverse Match Frame" across projects in productions...

SEARCH IN PREMIERE IS STILL TERRIBLE.

CAN'T SEARCH FOR MARKERS. CAN'T SEARCH FOR CLIPS ACROSS PRODUCTIONS.

THANKS FOR ALL THE UPDATES, ADOBE. HOW ABOUT WORKING ON THE BASICS FIRST?

I completely agree, it would be incredibly useful to have some kind of searchable index of all the projects in Productions.

In the meantime, you can manually create your own searchable "index" project. Here's how:

1. Make it easy to identify projects with media in the Productions panel. Either group them in a folder or name them in a way that you can easily filter them in the Productions panel.

2. In each of these media projects, create a Search Bin that filters Status: Online (you can add Or Status: Offline if you also want to include offline media). This will filter all the media in the project and exclude any sequences.

3. Create a new project in your Production and call it something like Index.prproj. Create a new sequence in this project.

4. For each media project, drag the media from the Search Bin into the sequence in your Index project.

Now you have a sequence with all your media in it that is searchable by any metadata with Edit > Find. To locate which project the media is in, right-click and choose Reveal in Project. If you turn on Show Duplicate Frame Markers, you can identify if you've accidentally imported media more than once.

This is a manual process, so you'll need to update the sequence as you go. The idea of the media search bins and making all your media projects easy to identify is meant to make this process easier.

Cheers,
Paul

@Nick Ha and All,

Announced in the Beta 12/16/24, "With the new Search panel, use natural language to find these visuals, plus spoken words in transcripts or clips with embedded metadata like shoot date, location, or camera type – all at the same time."

A staff comment on productions is here:

In context, I think markers/labels are also planned. But so far (I'm on Build 104), it includes visuals, text, and metadata.
