The Import tab in 23.5 needs Image Sequence auto-import like the traditional import dialog

Since the new Import tab now opens by default for a new project, it should include the automatic image sequence import. This would be particularly helpful in 3D workflows where animations are frequently rendered as PNG image sequences.

...and you could wait a step, (finish the new project creation) and import the image sequence into the project in the normal fashion.
