Adobe Write on Effect Doesn't Work

I followed the Youtube video instruction, on the last steps, I click on "write on", and then move the dot in the program manitor to the start position. Then, I click on 'the circle on the left of "Brush Position" and then click on "write-on" to start tracing.  But i can't trace at all, the dot is not moving when i try to move it with the mouse???? What is the issue?
