After import, video is normal speed but audio is too slow to understand

I am compililng multiple clips into one video. The first clip is fine.  In the second clip, the video plays at a normal rate but the audio is so slow, it is unintelligible.  If I increase the speed, the video move.  to fast. If I speed up only the audio, it ends well before the video portion.  Any suggestions?

Make sure Default Input in the Audio Hardware in the Preferences is set to No Input.

or

If the footage is variable framerate convert to constant framerate with Handbrake before bringing into Premiere.
