So this is a complete rookie question...

how would I apply an audio effect to a specific portion of an audio track? If, for example, the full audio track was 10 seconds in length and I wanted a specific audio effect to only apply from seconds 2-5, how would I do that? I don't want to apply the effect to the entire track.

you can use the blade tool to separate the section you want to fix.  You can also usually keyframe the effect so it has no effect except on the section you want to change...
