Background noise when recording

I am recording a voiceover in Premiere Pro 2020 and getting excessive background noise, a low level hum.  It's only with premiere pro, however.  If I use the exact same microphone/headphone setup in something like PowerPoint, I get no background noise.  I have a stand alone Finite Technologies USB microphone and a microsoft surface book laptop.

Perhaps Premiere is defaulting to a higher level of gain. Can you try lowering that and see if you can get it to sound more like Powerpoint?

Premiere Pro needs to be tweaked. ASIO4ALL drivers might help. Premiere Pro can make use of ASIO drivers.
