Hi there. I'm looking for best practices and suggestions for optimal performance while editing video in Premiere.
I have:
15" Macbook Pro 2018
Processor: 2.9 GHz 6-core Intel i9
Memory: 32GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Graphics: Radeon Pro Vega 20 4GB // Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536MB
I don't use an external drive. My work uses Microsoft OneDrive. I usually download everything I need for a project directly to my Mac hard drive and pause OneDrive syncing until I'm done.
I'm pretty new to video editing. I mainly work with Illustrator/photoshop. I noticed during a Premiere project set up there are options for where files can be stored. That made me think - should I be using multiple drives?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

When I'm working on heavy projects on my 2019 Mac Book Pro (very similar to yours) I follow Adobe's recommendation and use two external drives. One drive holds my Premiere Pro project file and all my footage and assets. The other drive is selected as my media cache in Premiere Pro. I use SSD or NVMe external drives for fast speeds. I very rarely have any problems.
