Can't use text generator, AD.DBE text error

I get the following error "a low level exception error occurred in: AE.ADBE Text (GPUvideofitler:: getframedependencies)" when trying to use text layer in Adobe. Any video footage under the text layer goes black. For some reason the legacy titler still seems to work.

I read somewhere else that this may have to do with some corrupt third party font, and that I would need to delete all third party fonts. How do I know which are third party and which are standard microsoft fonts?

Desperately seeking advice.

Hey Jeff

I believe there was some corrupt or duplicate font family, I deleted a bunch of 3rd party fonts that didn't seem to be default microsoft fonts and things seem to be working again. Thanks

Before trying to find/delete 3rd party fonts, please try creating a brand-new project in Pr and importing the old project into it. Hopefully your issue will either be fixed or you will get a warning message that may narrow down the cause of the error.

Since the error message you got involved the GPU, there may be issues there as well.

Also possibly from the error message: were any of these text layers created in After Effects or dynamically linked to Ae?

Hi Jeff,

I really hope you can help me. I've been facing this same problem. It began since I last used Premiere, and now I cannot use the text tool without blowing it up into dozens of pimk error messages in the "events" panel. Once I touch a pre-existing subtitle from the previous incarnation, it blows up too, and generates a black space where the video should be.

So I read the forum, and saw two threads (at least) that are addressing this problem. Both seem to say that the problem is a corrupt OTF font. As it happens I did install some new fonts since last time I used Premiere. So I've gone in and deleted them, and done the whole sequence 4 times now, each time deleting more and more fonts, including ones that I am sure have been on this computer all along. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere 4 times, restarting the computer each time, and each time the exact same problem occurs.

My strong impression is that there is a bug in Premiere. I have no problems with Photoshop or InDesign which I use constantly and depend on. I depend on Premiere to cut simple videos of our public events, and at this point I'm stymied. I am on a Lenovo laptop with lots of memory and speed, and haven't had any problems with Premiere until now. It's incredibly frustrating. Any ideas?

thanks for any help.

Did you try the create new project/import old project into it dance?

Do you get any error messages when you first load the project? (Screenshots would help).

Hi Jeff,
thanks for the suggestion. I did try that, and it didn't work. I didn't get
any error messages at first load, but as soon as I touch the text tool, it
blacks out the video screen where the text would be, and the dozens of
error messages cascade under the events tab...

I managed to do a workaround for the current project, which solved my
immediate crisis, but I am still stuck with a buggy Premiere going forward.
My workaround was to go back two months to a prior event video, save as the
new one, delete all the video content of that one, and then re-create the
new one there. I was able to edit the introduction screen and the end
credits, which are both legacy titles, but all the newer names and
explanations that would normally float over the video still produce the
same result, the error messages we're talking about, and so I just deleted
them all and went without any explanatory names or info and created the
video that way... not perfect, but better than not being able to get
anything done.

So with the fact that I *could* still edit a legacy title without causing
the same problem, does that offer any clues?

thanks again for your help.

I had to delete a whole bunch of fonts. I made a back up of them and then
went to town on my font library. I suggest doing the same. Should fix it.
