Cannot add video transitions of any sort (and yes, I have adequate handles).

So, I am slowly going crazy here. I can't seem to add video transitions at all. I have two clips, next to each other on the same line in the same sequence -- no gap. Both clips are several minutes and I've trimmed them down to a few seconds. In fact, I've tried it using different parts of the same clip. I've tried several different clips. It's not the source file. And again, because every answer to this problem on the whole internet seems to be a tutorial on making sure you have adequate handles, let me be abundantly clear: There are mintues worth of unseen footage on both ends of the clip. Handles a-plenty.

I can't drag and drop a video transition at all. I get the little hand icon with the cross-out icon on it. If I go Sequence to add a transition or command-click to add the default transition -- nothing.

I'm on a MacBook Pro from 2019 -- Big Sur 11.4 (most up-to-date as of writing). Plenty of memory, etc. I'm using Premiere Pro CC (also most up-to-date as of writing). The clip is standard: 1920x1080, 29.97, etc. I even did what Warren Heaton suggested here (step-by-step): https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/cannot-apply-transitions-to-anything-in-my-projects-help...

NOTHING WORKS. NO TRANSITIONS. FRUSTRATION LEVEL IS QUITE HIGH.

Help? Very much appreciated if anyone has any insights. It's probably something really stupid. And no, it's not the Global FX Mute. It's not that the transition isn't visible, it's that it just cannot be added at all. Thanks!

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean install of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver)

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

I don't know who you are, Peru Bob, but you should be nominated for sainthood.

I didn't even try... I just did the first four things you suggested. And it now works easily and wonderfully.

THANK YOU!
