Caption Tool is broken and buggy, and has not been stable for years.

The Caption Tool is possibly the worst, most useless tool Adobe has ever released. 

I cannot even do something as basic as drag and SRT file into Prem, and change the font, how absolutely broken can this be? Adobe one of the largest corporations in our industry cannot make a tool that simply puts text over video, it utter boggles the mind how they've created After Effects, yet cannot make a working caption tool. 

For years they have neglected it, and it is pathetic.

Buggy, yes. That broken, no. Something is amiss. It might help for you to post a screenshot of your Caption Panel and timeline.

The public beta includes the reworked caption tool. It is not ready for actual use, but progress is being made.
