Changing bit depth of XML created when using "edit in Audition... Sequence"

I've been having a LOT of crashing in Audition when using the Audio Interchange feature. It seems Premiere's XML file it sends to Audition is set to 32 bit and my I/O is only 24 bit. When it says "Calculating playback", it's about to blow up. I've confirmed this by exporting out all the audio as splits from Premiere and then bringing them into Audion in a session that was 48k 24 bit. No crashes whatsoever.

Where can I change the bit depth that Premiere writes into the XML?

I went into the XML and manually changed it and it works. Line 124

<audio>

                        <numOutputChannels>2</numOutputChannels>

                        <format>

                            <samplecharacteristics>

                                <depth>24</depth>

                                <samplerate>48000</samplerate>

                            </samplecharacteristics>

                        </format>

An extra step in my workflow but a functional workaround until I can find the proper way to fix this.

Premiere Pro processes the audio internally at 32 bit floating point.  I don't believe that can be changed with a user preference.

Why would it choose a different, and higher, bit depth than what the I/O can handle? Seems like a recipe for disaster, having to up-sample then down-sample at the same time... why not just function in the native format of the I/O?

Don't know.  I don't have an I/O device installed.
