Clips with ultra key not playing back

So I added an ultra key to a clip. I cropped the clip so only the green screen was showing and layered it on top of the same clip unedited. When I layered it the clip with the ultra key doesn't play anything back and the render line (I guess that's what it's called) that is above every clip in green red or yellow is no longer there. I've cleared everything out and tried it like 5 times and the same thing keeps happening.
