Converting .MKV files

I know that Adobe Premiere doesn't support .mkv files and I was under the impression that I do know how to convert them to .MP4 which Premiere does support, however after converting them the audio no longer synchs.

Am I doing something wrong during the conversion process? How can I get the audio to synch properly as there is no issue in the .mkv version of the file? What can I do to avoid this issue in the future?

What are you using to do the conversion, and what are your settings?

I don't use MKV, but I've read that https://handbrake.fr/ open source transcoder/converter does a good job

I was using the process outlined here:

http://asawicki.info/news_1615_how_to_quickly_convert_mkv_to_mp4_file_using_vlc.html

I was then able to find the handbrake program you mentioned and converting the files using that resolved the issue

@MyerPJ - Cheers mate!  Not sure why someone did not get you the correct answer.  I just installed OBS studio on my new PC Tower... and well... I did not pay attention to the output file.  Needless to say, I was like oh no... since it was an desktop caputer of me creating art..... So I downloaded handbrake and problem was solved.
