This is ridiculous. Did this in Adobe Media Encoder. After 5 HOURS of encoding it says it encoded successfully but the file size is 0KB in size and doesn't play! WHY???

I would be concerned that the location of both the the source file and the output file are one the O.S drive.

Neither should be there.

I'm finding that I get that error when I snap the start and end points of my work area to chapter markers.

I just got this same "unknown error" with the message "Could not write XMP data in output file" for the first time today.  It was also the first time, I was encoding individual sections from a long sequence by setting the work area for each section and only exporting what was within it.

I was setting my work area by snapping the start and end points to chapter markers that I had placed throughout the timeline.  I figured  the encoder may be having a difficult time writing the data related to the chapter markers since they were at the beginning and end points.

I temporarily shifted the chapter markers on each end of the work area to a location just outside of it and so far I no longer receive the error.

Sorry to necropost, but I've been randomly receiving this exact same problem in Adobe Media Encoder at random times on CS6.

When doing a batch of a large quantity of files to transcode, AME will fail on a file, and every subsequent file thereafter will be 0KB. A look through the logs finds the following:

02/25/2013 12:53:38 PM : File importer detected an inconsistency in the file structure of A003_C008_1215X9_F.mp4.  Reading and writing this file's metadata (XMP) has been disabled.

- Source File: /Volumes/16TB/BN-ProRes/Day 01/A003_C008_1215X9_F.mov

- Output File: /Volumes/16TB/BN-H.264-Dailies/Day 01/A003_C008_1215X9_F.mp4

- Preset Used: H264 Preview Quickrender - Mono

- Video: 1280x720, 23.976 fps, Progressive

- Audio: AAC, 160 kbps, 48 kHz, Mono

- Bitrate: VBR, 1 pass, Target 2.20 Mbps, Max 2.64 Mbps

- Encoding Time: 00:00:13

02/25/2013 12:53:38 PM : File Encoded with warning

------------------------------------------------------------

Adobe Media Encoder

Could not write XMP data in output file.

I find that the problem most consistently occurs when transcoding to MP4. File source seems to matter little by my observations, but in this case I was transcoding from 1920x1080 23.976fps ProRes.

Would dearly love to see a fix for this at some point.

System is a MacPro5,1 with 32gb of memory and a Quadro 4000. Footage is transcoding from/to a 16TB RAID array, though the problem was also happening on other storage mediums as well. I have also experienced this same problem on my personal MacBookPro9,1 at various times as well.

Make sure you have more than enough free hard drive space. Writing to MP4 requires way more space than the final file will be. So if AME runs out of space during the render, you will receive this error.

This is EXACTLY the problem I was running into (not enough free disk space).  The resulting MP4 file was 10GB... I needed 3 or 4 times that disk space free before encoding was successful.

Many Thanks!  The error message isn't exactly helpful... hintful but not helpful.

I'm embarrassed to say that I know no Tamil language at all. However, others might want to add this factoid to others if you came here to because of the error message.

I am getting this same error message. But, it does save the file, and I have lots of disk space. So, the error message does not necessarily mean either of those 2 things, I think.

Same here! I've got 800gb free on C and 2.14TB free on D so I'm good for free space.

Now this error, to me anyway, isn't a showstopped. I still get my videos output and to my clients so thats good. Would just like a nice output like I used to get. I don;t know if the fact its going into a Dropbox location is an issue, never used to be until a few months back.

I'll just point out that I had abundant space and was not saving to dropbox. But, I was saving to a network drive, which I do all day every day.

In windows, I notice that premiere and after effects will sometimes be unable to see network drives and if I load a file from a mapped drive it will sometimes save it with the UNC path instead of the mapped drive, e.g.:

\\192.168.0.1\blah\blah\blah.mp4

instead of:

y:\blah\blah.mp4

I don't know if that is related.

Very useful software. But, the error handling of this seems like a bug to me. I'm unable to present an example for a bug report at the moment. If you can, that might help.
