Does this kind of edit exist?

Sometimes I put a clip in the timeline that's too long in the middle. Right now, I'm cutting that middle bit out and disolving between the two halves, but I thought there might be a better way I don't know about where I can speed the time up for that part of the clip I want to skip past. I tired Googling a result but, if such an edit does exist, my keywording is bad and I can't find it. 

Does something like this exist in PP or am I doing it right?

If I'm understanding your question you might want to look at time-remapping. It lets you change the speed of a portion of a clip.

Yeah, I'm wondering if it's possible to edit between two points on a clip.

For example, say I have a one minute clip and I only need the first and last ten seconds. Is it possible to shrink the size of the clip by, I dunno, putting keyframes in and remapping so that unnecessary 40 seconds more or less blends away? I was wondering if such an edit, or such a way to edit exists or not.
