Dragging Clips doesn't reliably show previews

I'm on Mac, Big Sur 11.2.3 running Premiere 15.1.0 (Build 48)

When moving clips in the timeline by drag and drop, the preview "ghosts" don't show.

I can sometimes force them to show by changing the zoom level, but that doesn't work reliably either.

I've tried cleaning out the cache and resetting the workspace to a saved layout as suggested elsewhere – but no joy. Does anybody else experience this? Is there a fix? It gets pretty frustrating pretty fast…
