Error message when booting: Video Filter missing: AE.ADBE BlackmagicRawPremiereSourceEffect

Trying to update from 14.0 (which worked previously) to 14.3.  Now getting this message on launch of project: Video Filter missing: AE.ADBE BlackmagicRawPremiereSourceEffect

I've uninstalled and reinstalled PP, AE, Encoder and the Blackmagic BRAW suite 2.1.1 and reinstalled BRAW and PP and still get same message.  Tried uninstalling PP and reverting back to 14.0 and now I get the same message when it launches.  So something has been deleted and not installed properly, most likely an Adobe BRAW plug-in.

Any guidance would be welcome on how to get my PP working again with BRAW, either the native Adobe  plugin or the Blackmagin BRAW suite.

Actually, I realized that if you see this error message :

Video Filter missing: AE.ADBE BlackmagicRawPremiereSourceEffect

it indicates that you opened a project which has been started with the Blackmagic Plugin (and not the BRAW Studio Plugin) and that this Blackmagic Plugin is no more installed on your computer.

Note that when you install BRAW Studio, there is an option to remove the Blackmagic Plugin (because of incompatibility : see article below), so you should have clicked on this option an

Hi there,

We're sorry to hear about this. Are you using the BRAW Studio plugin from Autokroma or the Blackmagic RAW 1.7 plugin from Blackmagicdesign? Also, are you using Windows or macOS? Let us know, we're here to help.

Thanks,

Sumeet

Sorry should have added that info.

2019 MBP - Catelina 10.15.5 - 2.4 Ghz 8-core - 32 GB ram - I have the AutoKroma BRAW suite 2.1.1 which I have uninstalled and re-installed.

It all was working with 14.0 but I finished that project and decided to try 14.3 to see if some other import issues I had with 14.1 & 14.2 had been solved.  Then this error showed up.  Now when I tried to re-install 14.0 got the same error and suddenly all of my BRAW footage doesn’t and won’t load.

I’m stuck with a new project starting, one in which I was going to try to use the new PP Project sharing feature, and can’t load the footage.

Please help…

Be well and stay safe.

I also use the Autokroma plugin, which is working beautifully. I would suggest contacting the folks at Autokroma, as Nicholas and Farve are very helpful and knowledeable in using both their own plugin and the BlackMagic plugin within Premiere.

So ... go to their website, send them a message, and look through their FAQ/help section also.

Hello gf,

Thanks for using BRAW Studio !
Please try to install a last time BRAW Studio : https://www.autokroma.com/BRAW_Studio/Download

After that, you should have a "BRAW Studio" folder located here in OSX :

/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore/
Please send us a screenshot of this folder (or tell us if the folder doesn't exist) here: https://www.autokroma.com/contact

Nicolas from Autokroma

OK - but can anyone explain why there are two plugins from two different manufacturers apparently doing the same thing plus causing a system conflict? I dont dont get how that can be helpful.

Hello,

Long story, when BRAW came up there was initially no way to import BRAW footages in Premiere Pro.

Autokroma (which I belong) developed a first plugin (not free). Then Blackmagic developed its own plugin so BRAW users didn't need to pay anymore to have BRAW in Premiere Pro.

But the Blackmagic plugin had some bugs and troubles, and more and more the Autokroma BRAW Studio plugin implemented new features (with Metadata, with Presets and other features to batch apply BRAW color changes, with some fix from Adobe bugs, with a dedicated panel to grade BRAW like Lumetri, etc ...), so there was a "Premium" paying plugin (Autokroma BRAW Studio) without bug and fully featured and a "Free" plugin (Blackmagic Plugin).

Now we (Autokroma) decided to give for FREE all the features the Blackmagic Plugin has in BRAW Studio. So you have now a Free BRAW Studio plugin, without the bugs of the Blackmagic Plugin, and there is no reason to prefer the Blackmagic plugin anymore ! If you want more,  you can buy a Premium License and unlock all the advanced features we developed.

--

Now about the conflict between both plugins well, it's for technical reasons and the way Adobe handle plugins. But BRAW Studio offer (for FREE) a way to convert a project from one plugin to another, and so you can keep only one plugin. Also I don't see any reason why you would want to keep both plugins.

You can find more information on our website :

I initially used the BM pluging. But as Nicholas notes, there were ... bugs. And limitations.

So I bought the Autokroma one, which has more options ... and always works.

Your mileage will vary. But between the freebies, I'd suggest going with the Autokroma one. And whichever one you choose, Autokroma has the best support on their site for both theirs and the BM plugin ...
