Hi out there,

I got a project file, which I can open like always, and read the timelines, but all the footage has questions marks in the bin and the timelines say "Media pending".

It is then loading the footage painfully slow, in a way you can not work with.

Its a 250MB project wich will take several hours to load everything contained. (it was seconds before)

It was working fine just days ago.

I checked it on two different computers.

All the same: It takes forever to load footage and everything.

Same thing if I try and import the project to a new one. It is running in the moment and already takes for over 45min...

The drive everything is on is fast and the media is fully accessible, if I go directly to the drive and just play them!

Also other projects from other drives are working fine.

If I just import a bunch of clips into a new project, it works as well...

This is a huge project with a lot of work in it

I am realy stuck here and Adobe Support could not help as well...

Anyone any ideas?

Adobe Support found my problem. I could have thought of it my selfe ...

It was Avira Free Antivirus Realtime mode coursing the problem!

Switched it of, and everything was up and running.

Hi Ichamel,

I'm faced with very much the same problem so I thought it made sense to post it here.

My specs are very similar than yours:

PP2017

Mac Pro 2010 12Core

GTX 1080 ti

24 Gb Memory

Mac OS 10.12.6

Project and Media Cache are in my SSD Boot drive and the material is in a Raid 0 (2 internal drives)

The problems started a couple of days ago when I was given new media for the project. I don't know if it's a random fact of the two things are related.

My project is much smaller than yours, 45 MB, most of the material is in Prores LT 1080 proxies, but I'm also using archive -which is in different sizes and frame rates.

Since importing the new material (Prores) every time I change timeline, or I move around the same timeline, it takes ages for premiere to load the media. It's impossible to work like this.

I followed advice that I've seen in other forums:

- manually cleaned the media cache files

- I renamed the folders where I keep all the material and relinked it back again.

- deleted all the renders.

- turn off and on CUDA in project settings

Nothing made any difference.

any thoughts...?

Thanks

Hello zaja,

Other than what I suggested to ichamel, it seems you have a number of things in common. One thing that stands out is you both have NVIDIA GPUs. I wonder if that might have something to do with this. Let's keep troubleshooting and I hope we can find a fix for you both.

Thanks,
Kevin

I got the same problem on MacBookPro 2013 (ATI) and MacPro (Nvidia), so the GPU seams unlikly to be the problem for me.

It must be something about the CC 2018.

Yes it´s a project that I started in 2014 and updated several times.

But is was up and running in CC 2018 nicely until some day´s ago.

There was a OS and NVIDIA Update in between so!

But going back to my system backup form a week ago does not semt to be

a good solution, would have to update sooner or later und might run into the same

problems again ...

In Safe Mode (not Save Mode), not all drivers are loaded.  This could indicate a bad driver.

I would start by updating or rolling back your video driver directly from the card manufacturer's site.

That means for me going back to a backup of my System bevore the last Update of OS / Nvidia since one does not work without the other. I did so.

To a point where everything worked just fine (10.12.2017).

But horror! It´s the same problem ... can´t belive it.

Even stranger:

When I first loaded the project on the rested system, all the clips loaded correctly and fast. I could play singel clips.

When loading a sequence it was all there but would not play back. Then everything would not play back.

I quit the project. Then Premiere crashed instead fo closing.

Opening the project again the problem was back. NOTHING loading.

Premiere keeps crashing every time I try and close the project.

I then took out the backup drive of the project and loaded a version of the project from 07.12.2017 when everything was fine.

That one has the same Problem!! How can that be??

I go mad...

One more strange thing:

While running my system on OS GPU drivers with a GT120 GPU the first attempt to load the project from backup drive worked!

Thought I found the problem and loaded the Master volume project. But there the problem was back again. Wondering I went back to

the backup volume and the project that worked just minutes ago. But there the problem was as well. Without any change.

Working just minutes ago!

Playing around with other versions of the project did fail as well.

This does not make any sense.

I am working on this for 15 hours now....

Any Ideas?

Summary.

I tryed:

-checking write permissions (no change)

-3 different Macs / 4 different grafic boards (3 Nvidia / 1 ATI)
 (all the same!)

-without Nvidia Drivers (OS Drivers)
 (no change)

-2 Different drives (master drive, backup drive)
  (all the same!)

-Project versions old and new (from 2015 to 2017)
 (all the same!)

-Other projects files from other projects (same thing)

-Importing the Project into another (takes forever)

-reconnecting everything to a renamed folder (takes forever)

-reinstalling Adobe CC completly
 (no change)

-deliting chach (no change)

-unsing a clean new OS User (no change)

-Going back to a system backup from a day when it all worked fine
 (no change)

-importing new stuff (takes forever)

The only thing that all test´s have in common is Premiere 2018!

I am out of options... this is madness...

Hi Kevin and ichamel,

In my case, I've been working in PP 2017 all along, so I don't think the issue is with the version.

I've tried reimporting the whole project onto a new project and the problem persists.

I've transcoded all the archive material so it's in 25fps in case that was the cause of the problem. But it's not.

I really don't know what the source of the problem is...

any thoughts Kevin?

Thanks

I do actually have Avira antivirus installed. I'm away for a couple of weeks, but I'll check it once I'm back.

ichamel,

Sounds like you are doing what I'd try; importing the project. Hope that works. If that does not work, is it possible to use CC2017 to complete the project instead?

Thanks,
Kevin
