Have to restart premire a ton while using captions

When I am adding captions to a clip I constantly have to close out of premiere and re-open it because those captions freeze everything. I am running a very high-end editing machine but this a new problem with the new versions of premiere.

Also while I am here, the captions function is very inconsistent. Coming down to the frames when the text changes. Sometimes it cuts the frame before it is supposed and sometimes it

One other user complained about a similar issue and related it to how many captions were added.

How many captions are one your timeline? How many can you add  before there is a problem. 

This may mean nothing; but perhaps.

I add in srt files i have generated so it can be anywhere from like 20-30
