I purchased a larger monitor to be fed from the laptop on which I work. My intent was to keep the editing controls on laptop display and be able to send the program panel to my HDMI laptop out and into the 24"
monitor. Don't see how to do this is it possible ?

If you mean in Premiere the only thing I see under Pref>playback is DV. No mention of monitor. In laptop display setting all I see is choice to feed moni 1 and 2 or 1 only or 2 only.

let's start with the basics

Please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card.    When you have the external monitor connected via hdmi, does anything appear on that screen before you launch premiere?

That's not correct. You must make it work in Windows first before it will work in PP. In Windows under Display Settings you should see 2 monitors listed. Your monitors should show in side-by-side mode and you should be able to move your mouse back and forth across both monitors like they were one display. All your icons should be on one and a screen with which you can drag a windows from one screen to then next. When you get that working in Win, you can go to Prefs/Playback and you should see both monitors there.

  1. Thanks for the help I got it working. The initial windows display of a big 12 in a blue box was not very helpful but scrolling lower I saw it and then could unlock the output panel in PP.
