importerREDservice x 8 eating up cpu when working with proxies

Imac retina 5k, 27inch, 2017, 4,2 Ghz quad-core i7, 40gb ram
MacOS catalina 10.15.6

I converted all footage to quicktime proxies. Still when working on RED footage, the computer gets really loud and the activitiy monitor reveals that eight processes called importerREDservice are running simultaneously, each using about 80% cpu. This seems strange and abnormal. I haven't found any information on what this process might be. Does anyone know what this is about and if it can be easily fixed?

Thanks for the link. It seems to only apply to final cut. I did try to force quit the ImporterREDserver. That led to a force quit of premiere pro.
