Lagging when Gopro clips but not Sony A7III

Hi everybody!

I have an issue, when I want to edit with Gopro clips, it's lagging but not when I use Sony A7III clips (which are way heavier of course). It's really odd and I'm using proxies all the time.

Could it be a codec problem or a choice to make between CUDA and OpenCL ? I am not really good at deep technical things.

Thank you!

Emilie

At first it might seem like Sony's clips are heavier, because the file sizes are bigger. But what really matters for Premiere, and other NLE programs, is the amount of compression.

GoPro's files are heavily compressed, and are hard to edit. Although they play back normally on VLC and other media players, things are different when it comes to editing.

Using proxies should "normalize" all your clips.

Tell us your workflow maybe we can figure out why your proxies aren't behaving as expected.
