Merge clips problem

I have a query about this ///
When you use the Merge Clips function and when the you have audio file  from the digital recording device  shorter on both sides of the recording, as in the picture, there is no way to edit the In mark on source monitor  in such a merged file, only the OUT mark  can be done, In any other length of combined audio, you can do this 

 

Can you find any workaround in such a situation?
