mp4 files won't play in premiere pro anymore, even though they worked in my last project

suddenly, mp4 files now crash my premiere pro.

A couple projects ago I used them just fine. What gives?

It's stock footage taken on a drone, but also I attmepted to import an mp4 clip taken on my friends iphone and that didn't work either,

When I say didn't work, it crashes the app. When I delete the app from the project panel, it goes back to full functionality. A bizarre bug.

Any fixes for yet another Adobe dud?
