I was creating a 40th Birthday messages for my sister 40th and was adding a few video of her throughou the years, I was adding a VOB file which I copied from a previous Adobe Encore created DVD. When i import it to Premier Pro and added to Timeline it sounds no sound and audio track it plays sound in VLC player.

Here are the properties of the VOB file:

File Path: /Users/xxxxxx/Movies/VTS_01_5.VOB
Type: MPEG Movie
File Size: 713.79 MB
Image Size: 360 x 576
Frame Rate: 25.00
Total Duration: 00:29:33:15
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 2.1333

Any one give me advice or help on this. Her 40th Birthday was on the 10th, so it done and dusted but it have another 2 sisters 😞 birthdays up coming and would like to do the same for them when the meet birthday milestone. So if i come across this error again and would know how to resolve it.

Thanks

Use MediaInfo app to get the audio codec information. I have experienced this before when a vob had DTS audio which Premiere couldn't decode. It's unlikely to be DTS if its from a DVD you made yourself but if you can get the audio specs using MediaInfo then we may be able to figure it out.

What OS are you on? This might help:

https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/dolby-end-of-support.html

Your VOB has Dolby Digital audio which may not be decoded dpeending on your OS and PP version.

Do you have Audition?

Interestingly, I have one VOB on my system which has AC3 audio - I can play it back in Quicktime player on MacOS 10.15.6 and I get audio. I can also open it in Audition and I get audio. However, in Premiere, it is mute and no waveforms are drawn.

So as a workaround: convert in audition if you have it.
Secondly, can anyone else explain why AC3 might be decoded in Audition but not Premiere (when in theory it should be done by OS in both cases)? One file is not an exhaustive test clearly, but something funny is going on if Audition can play it.

Best way I found was to just add the VOB into Premier Pro, then go back to the where you saved the VOB and open it again is Adobe Audition, export the audio in Audition and then add that export into Premier Pro
