Playhead Automation?

In Premier, is there a way to move the playhead a specific amount in the timeline, say 1 second, or 30 frames, without manually dragging or hitting the arrow keys multiple times??

I know you are trying to be helpful Peru Bob, but your answer is a bit obscure?

In my timeline, hitting +(=) or - zooms me in and out.

I'll bet there is a bit more you can share??

and that's why using an extended keyboard with a numeric keypad is really helpful.    worth every penny.  There are standalone usb keypads you can use, but at least on the mac, I've found them undependable.

How do you type on a mac if you dont have a numpad and not use a mouse to highlight the Playhead Position?

not sure I understand but I often work on a macbookpro just using the built in keyboard.  If I want to advance 5 frames, I click on the playhead position field at the top left of the timeline, then hit + (which requires holding the shift key down) and then enter then number 5...  works, just not as easy as the numeric keypad makes it.

  I'm on an extended keyboard, even when I'm using a laptop (usually) but good to know the options. 
   
  So the answer is...
  To move the playhead backward or forward a specific number of frames:
  1. Click on the playhead position field at the top left of the timeline
  2. Hit - or + (+ requires holding the shift key down if not using a numeric keypad)
  3. Enter the number of frames (eg: 5, 30, etc..)
  4. Hit the "Enter" key
   

Some of the terminology still evades me. After your help I found this on page 267:

• Move the playhead using timecode

  To move to playhead using timecode, click the timecode value in the Playhead Position. Type a new time, and press Enter (Windows) or Return (macOS). Do not use the number pad on macOS.

If the Program panel is in focus, press Tab to activate the Playhead Position text filed, enter the desired position, and then press Return or Enter or Tab to accept the entry.

A quick way to get the Program panel in focus is to press Shift 4.

One thing of note:  You'll need to press Tab three times to activate the Playhead Position again as it will cycle through other options in the Program panel.

This also works in the Source panel when it is in focus.
