Premiere crashes after tape capture

I have the current Premier Pro CC version installed. I'm importing miniDV tapes via my Sony DSR-11 and the FireWire connection using the (Tape) option in the Capture dialog. Premiere imports the videos OK, but a few seconds after I have named the captured file Premiere crashes and I have to restart it. I saw that similar issues have been reported 2 and 3 years ago. Is this one of the typical Premiere bugs that hasn't been fixed for years? After the crash the crash reporter comes up and so I have sent about a dozen reports already. I don't know if someone really looks at them, but I have about 500 more tapes to capture.

I have NOT used either, but many say to try these for SD capture http://windv.mourek.cz/ or http://www.exsate.com/products/dvcapture/

I HAVE used http://www.scenalyzer.com/ and it works well, but breaks capture into 4Gig chunks

-which has not been a problem for me, since joining the 4Gig files on the timeline works well

-I have NOT used the scene detect function in scenalyzer, so don't know how well it works

ON a windows machine, long time ago, used similar hardware to capture from mini tape via firewire using SCENALYZER, as John referenced as something to look into. It worked great for me cause at that time using PPro was problematic for many people.

Well worth trying, especially with so many more to do. It basically captures at the same speed that you 'view' the tapes, so it takes time.

In a different thread, I just tested Scenalyzer on Win 10. Works fine, using older PC with firewire on mainboard.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions.

Just to point it out again. The capture works fine. It is some seconds after the capture has been saved that Premiere crashes.

I suspect that it is the generation of the Peak file. I can see the progress bar starting. I cant tell if it is at the end or shortly before when Premiere crashes. Another indicator is that if the capture is aborted (e.g. no frames found, wrong setting for PAL / NTSC at the device), an no file is created Premiere does not crash.

Edit: We have a bug filed for this issue and we are working on a fix. The workaround appears to be to use CC2015 (if you still have it installed, it is no longer available) or use an earlier version.

What about the people who have CS6?  Can we get a bug fix for this too?  I'm hitting hangs and crashes during capture too.  I shouldn't have to pay/upgrade to get a bug fixed.

Use ScenalyzerLive instead of relying on the capture tool in Premiere Pro. ScenalyzerLive used to be payware but is now free and once you start using it you will never go back to the capture tool in Premiere Pro, any version.

No more chrashes, no more lost captures.
