Reported by Monogram Creative Console users, but it looks like other control surface devices are affected too:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/ppro-15-won-t-run-control-surface/m-p/11887436

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/loupedeck-not-available-at-premiere-pro-2021-v-15-0/m-p/...

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Add a control surface plugin (ie Monogram Creative Console, Mackie Protocol Mixer, etc)
  2. Restart Premiere Pro
  3. Try to open Preferences > Control Surface

Expected:

The control surface menu opens and displays the active control surface(s)

Actual:

Premiere Pro crashes 100% of the time

System:

macOS 11.2 Big Sur, Premiere Pro 15.0

Upon further investigation, we've found the following:

  • Premiere Pro 15.0 usually (80% of the time) doesn't recognize plugins contained in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/ControlSurface/ -- this plugin directory worked with Premiere versions 12.x -> 14.x and is the default install directory for the Monogram plugin.
  • Premiere crashes if a plugin lives in the above directory and the user tries to access Preferences > Control Surface
  • A temporary workaround is to move the plugin file to /Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro 2021/Adobe Premiere Pro 2021.app/Contents/Plug-Ins/ControlSurface

The workaround outlined above works on a case-by-case basis, but Premiere Pro really should be patched to accommodate plugins inside the Common directory as previous versions have.

On my PC, the place the plugins for Tangent, Red Giant, BlackMagic and others have been 'living' for some versions is the

Program Files/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore folder.
