Premiere Pro 2019 and 3gp: No problems. Updated yesterday to Premiere Pro 2020. Premiere Pro 2020 doesn't recognize 3gp. Says: "The file has an unsupported compression type."
I tried to clear data cache files but no avail. Any help?

Thanks, but those actions didn't help. 3gp - file is filmed with Nokia 5.1 - phone. I had no issues with them with Premiere 2019. One .3gp - sample can be downloaded here: http://www.skjkl.fi/temp/sample.3gp

Wont import in 2019 and 2020 on my machine. Only cs6 will import.

Guessing its a codec issue.

Second clip wont either.

Phone footage is not very good editing material especially 3gp.

xvid is not for editing just for watching.

updating your phone probably won't solve the problem.  video shot on phones is usually variable frame rate which Premiere has problems with.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-work-with-variable-frame-rate-vfr-media-in-pr...

Use Handbrake to convert to a constant frame rate and to a more premiere friendly codec

If you look at the properties of the last file its constant frame rate but with an odd fps.

VLC Media Player / Conversion settings:
Video - H.264 + MP3 (MP4)
Encapsulation: MP4/MOV
Video codec: H-264
Bitrate: Not used
Quality: Not used
Frame rate: Same as source
Scaling and size: Automatic

tip source:

...gives no errors when imported, but still BLACK SCREEN...

...after THESE Premiere settings:

File/Project Settings/General.../Renderer: --> Mercury Playback Engine Software Only

...can see PICTURE, ...but only audio when dragged to timeline... arrhg!!

Importing only audio was related to source patching:

Yes, the last part didn't have anything to do with 3gp. Original problem was that Premiere couldn't read Nokia 3gp. With VLC Media Player (conversion settings above) I can convert Nokia 3gp:s to Premiere-readable mp4:s. Handbrake would probably had done the same thing, but I tried VLC since I already had it.

I brought the .3gp files into NERO (with sound) and exported them as .mp4 files. Then into Premiere Pro. Quick and easy.
