Premiere Pro 2021 incredibly slow

I'm using a computer with a Threadripper 1950x processor, 2x 3090rtx, SSD and NVME drives, putting scratch disks on their own dedicated disk, yet... Premiere Pro 2021 is incredibly slow for me. 

Sometimes it takes over a minute to update any change to the viewport even at 1/8 resolution. 

I'm editing 4k AVI mostly, with a fair amount of effects, but regardless, Premiere is crawling way slower than I would expect. 

Using 471.11 Nvidia Studio drivers. Still occaisionally crashes.

Have you tried transcoding to a CODEC that's good for editing?

I recommend Apple ProRes 422 HQ.  Based on what you have described, that should be very responsive.
