Premiere pro freezes when I add still images to the timeline

Since 2 weeks, I can't edit properly my videos in Premiere Pro as the timeline freezes when I try adding still images. In December, I could do that without problems on the same computer. I tried uninstalling Premiere Pro 15.0 version et reinstalled 14.9 but the problem was still there.  As it is PP is not usable anymore. What can I do to solve this issue ?

My hardware : 

 XPS 15 7590 running on Windows 10

16 GB DDR4 

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 +  Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630

Try opening your images in Photoshop and re-saving them.

I tried with various sources and sizes of images, and any still image makes the timeline freeze. It seems to be more of a software issue.
