Premiere pro performance problem with a very good pc

My problem is that the playback is very choppy, and it takes ages for me to even start the playback. I tried using proxies and lowering the playback resolution, but it didn't work. The only way for me to work is to transcode the video with Media Encoder, but that can take up to 3h, and it also gets rid of the alpha channels. I tried using Cinemapro with alpha channel, but it takes longer, and also runs even worse.

My specs are:

• Intel i9-9900K
• 4, 16GB DDR4 RAM
• Zotac RTX2080 - 8GB
• MSI Mainboard Z370-A

I don't know if I should specify the PSU too.

Frame rate mode : Variable < There's your problem.

Premiere and other NLEs don't work well with variable frame rates. You can use Handbrake to convert your source to a constant frame rate before importing into Premiere.

For the next time, check the settings before your record maybe you can record in constant frame rate from the get go.

And on another note, Premiere Pro 14.8 was just released, and it was mentioned that it might work better with variable frame rates.

Maybe update to 14.8 and give it a shot. I haven't tried it myself, but just suggesting that it might solve your issue.

I updated, and now I'm gonna check. If I use Handbrake, will it damage my video?

I just found out the cause. I record in an mkv format, and then remuxing it. The recording is constant. If I use handbrake I can convert it to mp4 right?
