Premiere Pro will not retain render (green bar returns to red)

Hi!
I'm having a problem with rendering two final frames of an animation.

I'm posting both of the below issues because I'm teaching and my student is having one of these problems and I the other (both of us are using the same prefs and settings):

• When I select one frame and hit "render selection", it briefly turns my render bar green, but it reverts to red immediately.  (Working on a macbook air, here.)
• I know there are some issues with rendering nested sequences; I have now succeeded with rendering the images within the nest, but the nest itself will not render.  (Working on a macbook pro, here.)

Kind of odd. What kind of media is it? What camcorder were you using?
