Premiere slows down and freezes but ONLY in the first minutes of execution

In Premiere Pro 2020 14.3.1 and 14.3.2 (on Win 10), I have 2 problems (probably connected).

The first:

  • Each time I launch it starts normally
  • But for the first 5-10 minutes it starts to freeze and slow down
  • This makes it impossible for me to work
  • After this time it works like a charm

The second:

  • When I have finished working(closing it), it apparently closes
  • But its process remains infinitely active on the background
  • Occupying a lot of GB of RAM and then decreasing until arriving at 5!
  • I must manually terminate the process each time
  • (the same thing happens with Media Encoder!)

I have already tried to:

  • Reinstall the app
  • Use the Adobe cleaning tool
  • Delete the cache

Please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card

and tell us your source properties and sequence settings

OS: Windows 10

Premiere versions14.3.1 and 14.3.2

RAM: 32GB (29GB assigned to Premiere and 3 for the rest, it is a new computer)

Data folders: on the last generation SSD

Graphics card: it is integrated but I use the Mercury playback engine software only (if I use GPU acceleration I do not see the playback preview at all)

 

The problem:

  • Occurs only after 1-2 minutes and endure for 5 minutes, then I work perfectly and fast
  • In the past, with the same hardware and software, were absent
  • Happens with every project (new or old, with or without particular plug-ins)

 

I have also tried to:

  • Reset to Saved Layout
  • Reset preferences and plug-in cache

 I'm just throwing out a few things that might have some impact and are easy to test.

are you running any other applications at the same time?  Might try not and see if that makes any difference.  You might also try assigning a few gigs less ram to adobe.   And make sure you have plenty of empty space on all your drives.  at least 20% on your startup drive and at least 10% on all other drives...

It seems to be a RAM related problem:

  • Lowering the amount of RAM dedicated to Premiere to 20GB, with a new project, both problems disappear (I can close the app and work without problems)
  • With a more resources-consuming project, the problem returns (always temporarily)
  • As you can see in the graphic of my system resources, to the central peak of memory corresponds the freeze (that endures until the constant decrease of RAM reaches its end, to the right)

This is a user to user forum.

I think your main reason of bad performans as you do not use the gpu.

Never mentions the specs of the cpu and the gpu and media used.

I always used the software without problems (even this version, never using GPU, with many other software opened at the same time).

If I use the GPU I cannot work at all.

If I wait, the problem occurs even before loading any project (in the recent projects tab).

 

It seems like some secondary tasks do something that ends in an infinite loop or in a big and useless work (even if it is very hard for me to imagine a task able to trouble a computer with these specifications without even having loaded a project).
