Premiere video program screen goes black

Having an issue where when I placed 3 mirror effects on a video clip, when I enable more than one of the mirror effects my screen goes black for that clip. It appears as if the computer is unable to render the clip at all even after going through the "Render In to Out" process. I have tried all of the usual methods of fixing render issues; clearing my media cache, restarting, changing playback quality. I am unsure what really is the issue with why it is not showing the clip properly. I also have been having issues with very laggy and slow playback to the point where it is very, very difficult to edit at all. Really hoping to find a solution!
