I have just got premier pro 2020. I have used it to compile some photos with music and make a DVD in encore, this worked very well. I now want to try copying some old VCR tapes into premier. I have a Samsung SV-DVD40 VHS tape deck and a digital converter(Canopus ADVC-55) When I try to capture I can hear the sound but I don't get a picture in the capture window. All though Premier does capture the video it is inconvenent not being able to see what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If the above trick doesn't work I have NOT used either, but many say to try these for SD capture http://windv.mourek.cz/ or http://www.exsate.com/products/dvcapture/I HAVE used http://www.scenalyzer.com/ and it works well, but breaks capture into 4Gig chunks-which has not been a problem for me, since joining the 4Gig files on the timeline works well-I have NOT used the scene detect function in scenalyzer, so don't know how well it works

In the Capture panel, go to the Settings tab and make sure that Capture Format is set to DV and make sure to click on Options for the Device Control and make sure that the settings match each other, iow if you capture PAL you want the Video Standard be set to PAL. It was many years ago i captured DV so i don´t know how important that setting was.   What i do know is that the buttons should be "light up" for it to work. The screen dump i posted the buttons are dimmed out since i did not have a DV...

I have seen this as well and often just clicking the Play button in the Capture panel once or twice does the trick. It can take a couple of seconds after the click before the video show up.

This can be changed in the Options of Scenalyzer so it´s not an issue. So one can capture let´s say one hour, or more, of footage and get one physical file. 🙂

Just to be clear. My problem is that the capture window does not show the video I am capturing. Even though Premier has actualy captured the video.  I do not need software to convert analog to digital.

Averdahl I tried pressing the play button as you said but this did not work?

Or, skip Premiere Pro and use ScenaLyzer LIVE to capture DV. It´s easy, it always works, it gives you the same quality and it´s free. See the screen dump abowe and change the max file size to Unlimited.
