Relatively new to Premiere Pro and After Effects, but I need to remove the After Effects links and restore the original video in my project.  Is there a simple way to do this?

There's no easy way around it, you should get into the habit of duplicating your clips to another video track before replacing them with an after effects composition.

You can go into your auto-save folder, open an older version and copy your original clips from there and paste them on your current timeline.
