srt not relinking - the importer reported generic error

Hi,

I've inherited a project and we're working in CC 2017.

Today I've opened my project to realise half of the open captions had gone offline (even though I had done no changes anywhere on the drive).

When trying to relink I get the message 'File Import failure: the importer reported generic error'. If I try to reimport the files I get the same message.

Any ides of what I can do?

Thanks

Hi Stan,

thanks so much for your help, you gave me the key to find the solution.

I deleted the xmp files that Premiere creates automatically and this actually solved the issue. I was then able to relink the srts again.

Thanks

Create a new test project and see if the srt imports okay there. Was the original import in PR 2017, or was this an updated project?

A translator created the captions directly into his Premiere 2017 as far as I know.

I've created a new project and I can't import them into this project either.

One thing I've now noticed is that the caption files that have gone offline seem to have a frame rate of 1,000 fps. I'm not sure why this would be. In any case, I don't understand why they are unreadable all of a sudden.

Any thoughts?

I have played with open captions to try to understand some of the problems, but I do not understand it well enough.

I think you cannot export a caption file from open captions created in PR?

Sending you a PM.

You're welcome!

I should have suggested renaming the file/deleting the xmp and reimporting earlier, but I was focused on the fact that the subtitles were not appearing. I could find no problems in the project file, and could import the .srt.
