Importing numerous still from different sources, finding some (not all) portrait views are being stretched to square when dragged to timeline. Set to frame is default. Sequence setting is HDV 1080p. Only fix is to go to effects window and manually adjust the width. Video expet is for online viewing internal to company.
you might try changing your sequence settings to 1920x1080 square pixels. HDV uses rectangular pixels.. which are a royal pain. pretty much everything nowadays is square pixels. generally premiere does a pretty good job of adjusting things properly but worth a shot. If you do that and the still images are not distorted, you'll be able to reedit oe of the hdv clips into the timeline (and it should be adjusted properly) and then you can copy those attributes to all the other hdv clips in the

Many thanks - I had not considered the PAR setting to square, and followed your advice to set 1920 x 1080. Now the still image drag-and-drops onto timeline work fine. Really appreciate this.
