Subtitle font contour has "horns" and spikes

Hello, I am using Adobe Premiere Pro 2020 to insert subtitles in a video. I am choosing Arial and choosing a black thickness contour around, so it's nicer to read...
However, there are some weird spikes in the contour, which are going to prove distracting.

Do you know what the problem is? Can this be fixed so the contour looks normal? Thank you

Known issue. A recent post suggests reducing edge to 1 to get some improvement in appearance.
